Driveway Turntable

They say that necessity is the mother of invention and there are times when it really is true. Space is often a reason that people often come up with new ideas or invent something new. When there is not enough space to do things in, people will go to great lengths to find ways to use the space in a more economic way. An invention that has been used in trains for a long time has come to the domestic suburbs and is being used in new and interesting ways to solve both the problems of space and even security. A driveway turntable can be a great use where space is a premium or just limiting.

A driveway turntable works just like the normal turntable that is used by trains to move them from track to track or into the storage houses for the trains. It consists of a large disc that can move around in a full circle. The vehicle drives onto the disc and from there it can be turned in the desired direction. They can be automated or manual since pushing the vehicle on the turntable is not a lot of effort at all. While it may seem a little odd or even silly to have something like this for your car, there are a number of useful ways that it can be employed.

In those driveways where there is not a lot of space to turn or the amount of space is barely enough to move the car without damaging it, a driveway turntable can be a lifesaver. The same is true for long, narrow driveways that you are forced to reverse out of. Parking the car on the turntable allows the car to be turned in the direction that you want it to face. Whether it is to turn the car around to get out of the driveway easier or whether it is to turn the car around a sharp corner that is nearly impossibly to navigate, the turntable can help to get the vehicle around the 'obstacles' with very little trouble.

A driveway turntable can also be a useful security measure if your car cannot be safely parked behind a gate in a driveway. The car is driven onto the turntable and then the turntable is turned so that the car cannot exit the driveway. The turntable can be locked if manual. Automated turntables will obviously not move without the controller but can also be locked for extra security.

Old technology is finding new uses as people think of different ways to use them. The driveway turntable could be a blessing for those people who struggle with their driveway everyday and whose cars attest to this fact with all the bumps, scrapes and dents that adorn its body. They are simple to use and fast to install and can make the world of difference in a driveway that is limited by space or location.
